It’s not your imagination. April in Portland is significantly less wet than what we’ve just been through — at least on average. You can also expect it to get 5 to 10 degrees warmer over the next several weeks ☀️ Besides the weather, what else is there to look forward to?

💐 April Flowers
Spring means beautiful flowers, brought to us by nature (and sometimes hard work):
Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn:
Tulips are probably my favorite flower. If you like them too, there’s the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn. It runs through April 27.Trillium Festival:
At the other end of the flower spectrum, there’s the trillium, a native plant that blooms in the wild. Tryon Creek celebrates with a festival this Saturday, which features a native plant sale.
🏂 Spring Skiing
For those of you who haven’t had enough winter fun, or who simply want to enjoy the snow alongside spring, check out the deals for a spring lift ticket up at Timberline. The ski season runs to May 26 — as long as the snow sticks around. And for doubters, check out the weather up on the mountain; it’s still cold and snowy.
🚲 Ladds 500
For Portland quirky, you can’t beat the Ladds 500 on April 12. It’s a relay race for bikes (and other wheels) around the Ladds Addition circle — 500 times. The tagline for the event is: “Let’s Do Something Stupid.” For those who want to play it safe: It’s a spectacle with a party in the center of the circle.
🍽️ Late Night Dining
The pandemic wiped out much of Portland’s late-night scene. But maybe there’s still hope: Short Round, which serves Vietnamese street food and cocktails on Southeast Hawthorne Street, is one spot that stays open — till midnight.
