From Dive Bars to Fine Dining, Portland’s Best Happy Hours

00:00:00

Whether you’re looking for affordable fine dining after work or a drink between your daily to-dos, Portland Monthly associate food and drink editor Alex Frane joined the City Cast Portland podcast to share his picks for the best happy hours in Portland.

OK Omens | 1758 SE Hawthorne Blvd. (Hosford-Abernethy)

⏰ 5-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday

Co-owner and sommelier Brent Braun flexes his love of Riesling with a happy hour $1-per-oyster pairing — there’s a 12 oyster limit per person, so pace yourself. There are also red wine and cocktail options if that’s more your thing. Plus, the creative wine menu descriptions are as fun to read as they are to drink.

Aalto Lounge | 3356 SE Belmont St. (Sunnyside)

⏰ 5-7 p.m. Daily

The streets would likely riot if we didn’t mention one of Portland’s happy hour staples. The vibey lounge recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and expanded its happy hour selections with food and drink options at just $3, $5, and $7.

Bar Maven | 6219 SE Foster Rd. (Foster-Powell)

⏰ All Day Sunday and Monday; 4-7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday

This Mediterranean spot is so good, it also made our list of Portland’s best neighborhood bars. The large selection of food and beverages included in the happy hour should make this a go-to for groups with different tastes. Plus, there’s a pool table on the patio!

A happy hour should be an enjoyable process that you go to because it's available. You don't really want to have a happy hour where you're rushing to get there and then finish it.Alex Frane, Associate Food and Drink Editor at Portland Monthly

Life of Pie | Locations in Nob Hill and Boise

⏰ 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Daily

Long live the Portland pizza happy hour! You can dine in and pair a drink with your pie, or take home a margherita pizza for this extended happy hour.

Dan & Louis Oyster Bar | 208 SW Ankeny St. (Old Town)

⏰ All Day Monday

If 12 oysters ain’t enough to crush your craving, you can grab them by the half or full dozen here for $2 apiece — there’s even an option to have them deep fried and served on a bed of fries. The happy hour also features other seafood and plenty of drinks to wash it all down.

We’ve got even more of Portland’s best happy hours in our full conversation with Portland Monthly's Alex Frane.
