What places offer the best biscuits and gravy in a booth, the best hangover food at the counter, and the best pie in the afternoon? Eater Portland editor Brooke Jackson-Glidden talked to the City Cast Portland podcast after digging into the best diners Portland has to offer.
🍳 Stepping Stone Cafe (Breakfast)
“I love biscuits and gravy. It feels like a very Oregon breakfast food: It's American, it's everywhere, but you see [it on] a lot of diner menus and a lot of cafes in Portland. I think they do a really great version of it.”
🥧 Banning's (Afternoon)
“I really associate diners with pie. Banning's has a big pie case. So I love to go in and get a slice of pie, depending on the season. I'm kind of a key lime girl. But if I'm really sad, I need chicken pot pie — stat. I will do that at Banning's.”
🥞 My Father’s Place (Late Night)
“This is a place that opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 2:30 a.m. Right now, that’s kind of unheard of. They make this — it’s so gross and I love it more than anything on Earth — breakfast sandwich with pancakes. And that's right up my alley, baby.”
