The western suburbs have (gasp!) excellent food — and it’s only gotten even better lately. Eater Portland editor Brooke Jackson-Glidden recently offered her picks of best places to eat:
It’s a relatively new Korean restaurant that’s gotten extremely popular, with good reason. So (warning!) plan to arrive before they open if you want dinner there. But don’t stress — there are other options nearby.
What To Order
- Pick from their wide selection of banchan — snacks that are eaten with the meal, including “raw marinated spicy crab that people have been really seeking out,” says Jackson-Glidden.
- Yukgaejang kalguksu. That’s knife-cut noodles in spicy beef soup.
Tip: Bootleggers Whiskey Bar is one place to wait while sipping an excellent cocktail.
Located inside the grocery store G Mart, this Korean restaurant has been around for a while.
What To Order
- Sundubu jjigae. It’s one of the best takes on this soft tofu dish — “super, super tasty,” says Jackson-Glidden.
- Naengmyeon. The cold noodle dish is only available in summer.
This spot dry-ages their sushi. “It develops such an incredible depth of flavor when you do that,” says Jackson-Glidden.
What To Order
- Salmon (“When I’ve had it there it’s really amazing,” says Jackson-Glidden.)
- Chutoro — a fatty tuna. (“When it's there, it's worth it if you're a tuna person.”)
The beloved pizzeria serves its own take on pizza. It has a traditional thin, crisp Neapolitan-style crust with, in Jackson-Glidden’s words, “a Pan Asian selection of toppings and dishes that go on top of it.”
What To Order
- Pho pizza: It has the food critic’s attention. “I think about their pho pizza all the time,” says Jackson-Glidden.
- Banh mi pizza
Sweet Treats and Snacks
And there are more picks for sweet treats:
- India Sweets and Spices has Indian desserts, but also you can get a full meal or snacks.
- Ome Calli Frozen Treats is a Latin American ice cream shop with “an astounding array of different flavors of ice cream there, including flavors like soursop,” says Jackson-Glidden.
- Oyatsupan Bakers is a Japanese bakery beloved for its milk bread and pastries.
