I had a chance this week to eat at the recently-opened and highly-anticipated new restaurant Xiao Ye. My recommendation? Go if you have the chance. And get the tomato toast when it’s in season. (Side note: Really, any fresh tomatoes you can find at the tail end of the season are worth considering!)

There are some other notable spots that have opened recently or will soon:

Street Food Like Bangkok’s Chinatown: Yaowarat

Even more highly anticipated, a new Thai restaurant in Montavilla opens today. Yaowarat is a collaboration from some of the best Portland restaurateurs, led by Akkapong “Earl” Ninsom. Portland Monthly says this will be Ninsom’s sixth Thai restaurant in Portland, though I count seven if you include both locations of Hat Yai. The others? Eem, Langbaan, Phuket Cafe, and Paadee. Chains in Malls: Shake Shack and Din Tai Fung

Here’s a couple of high-profile chains with openings. Shake Shack, the beloved burger chain that started in New York City, is opening its third Portland location later this month at Bridgeport Village. Din Tai Fung opened its downtown Portland spot last week in Pioneer Place. (I nominate the mall for the place with the weirdest vibes.) [Oregonian]

If you’re looking for other new restaurants to try, Eater Portland keeps a running list of the “hottest” new restaurants.
