Why Can’t Oregon Effectively Teach Children To Read?
A lot of Oregon students are having a hard time reading. We’re talking more than 60% of third graders and over half of seventh graders. But what if the problem was never with the students, or the parents, or the teachers? What if the problem is the approach and materials school districts use?
Today on the show, we’ll talk with Julia Silverman, who’s gone deep on the problem for The Oregonian. She’s going to help break down why we can’t seem to fix this issue and what it’s going to take to set up all Portland students for success.
