April is full of spring flowers — and taxes. There’s plenty of fun to be had, along with a few things you shouldn’t forget in Portland this month:
Spring Flowers
It’s spring, so check out the parks and gardens for flowers.
- Tryon Creek has trillium. Leach Botanical Garden has the less common red trillium.
- Visit the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden this month or next for azaleas and rhododendrons. 🌷
- It’s not peak rose season yet. But the International Rose Test Garden starts making its spring comeback in April. 🌹
Don’t Forget
- 😆 Watch out for pranks — or plan your own! Today is April Fools’ Day!
- 💰 April 15 is tax day. Don’t forget to pay your $35 arts tax if you live in Portland! (If you make $125,000 a year, there’s also the Multnomah County preschool tax and the metro area homeless services.) Also, remember to make sure you get your kicker tax credit!
- ✅ April 30 is the last day to register to vote for the May primary if you’re new to town. Good news: In Oregon you can take care of that in a few minutes online!
Find Your Fun
- 🎭 The Fertile Ground Festival, April 12-21, showcases local artists’ plays, dramatic readings, dance, comedy, and film.
- 😆 Some world-famous comedians are coming through town: April 3 for John Cleese for his Last Time To See Me Before I Die! Tour and April 14 for Tina Fey & Amy Poehler on their Restless Leg Tour.
- 🏍️ Motorcycle buffs should check out the One Moto Show, April 19-21
- 🌎 Celebrate Earth Day. On April 20, Portland Fruit Project has a street festival, spring plant sale, and fundraiser.
- 🍃 There’s also a 4/20 day tie-dye party for those who observe.
- 🎵Record Store Day is also April 20. (It’s a busy day.)
- 🌹 The annual 82nd Avenue Parade is April 27.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misstated the name of the rhododendron garden.
