Check out this updated guide — to the November 2024 election
The Multnomah County elections results were some of the last to be called from last week’s primary.
The result: we’ll have to wait till November in two key races for the board of commissioners.
(The county holds nonpartisan elections, where to win in May a candidate must receive 50%, plus one vote. That happened in two districts.)
It’s not clear whether an effort by downtown developers to drive county policy to a more conservative (or at least moderate) approach on homelessness will succeed.
General Election Fight
In these two races, the candidate supported by labor unions bested the one backed by downtown developers — though not by enough to avoid a runoff. The results in November are hardly a foregone conclusion, though.
In District 1 (west side), Meghan Moyer, policy director at Disability Rights Oregon, received 47% of the votes, while administrative law judge Vadim Mozyrsky, received 40% in a five-way race.
In District 2 (North Portland), Shannon Singleton, a former adviser to Gov. Kate Brown, received 46% of the vote. Former Mayor Sam Adams received 24%, in a hard-fought race for the second slot. (Jessie Burke, The Society Hotel CEO, came in third.)
Winner Declared
The less competitive races came out as expected. In District 3 (eastside), Julia Brim-Edwards, an incumbent, easily won reelection with 73% of the vote. In District 4 (east county), Gresham City Councilor Vince Jones-Dixon averted a runoff with just over 50% of the vote.
