Beau Bohanan, the co-founder of Untapped Trivia, recently shared his tips to win — or at least not lose badly — at Portland’s many trivia nights. Bohanan also gave us his list of the spots that make Portland feel homey.
Diva Drag Brunch at Swan Dive
“Drag shows are a love of mine, especially drag brunch. If I'm going to recommend any drag brunch to anyone, it will, of course, handsdown, be Swan Dive’s drag brunch. The queens are phenomenal. [Diva Drag Brunch] is not just in Portland; they're scattered throughout Oregon as well. They bring one of the best shows. Lilac who performs with us — with Untapped Trivia — she's usually always on their roster for Diva Drag Brunch.”
Newport and the Oregon Coast
“The coast is probably one of my homey places. It's so close to Portland. You can escape real-quick and go do something outside. We've taken the family to so many different places. Cannon Beach, obviously. We recently discovered Newport; this place is adorably charming as a small town. The downtown area was just filled with cozy little shops and also great brunch spots.”
Advice Booth
“Your good local community bar, Advice Booth, is one of my favorite spots. It's also where we host trivia on Tuesdays. It’s a wonderful, beautiful space. It's women-owned. Some people consider them a dive bar. I consider them a more upscale dive bar, but you're still getting your favorite dive bar drinks and craft beer. It just definitely feels like your homey, kind of 1970s couch vibe, whether you're sitting indoors or outdoors. You literally feel accepted anytime you walk in.”
